Optimization of Artemia Feed Regimes for Larval Giant Kōkopu (Galaxias argenteus)

چکیده

Optimizing the initial live feed is critical to success in fish larviculture terms of both larval health and productivity. It also vitally important due significant cost provisioning feeds. Glaxiids are high-value diadromous species found parts Southern Hemisphere, which wild-harvested sold for human consumption their form. In emerging aquaculture galaxiids, makes up a great proportion production cycle therefore factor achieving economic viability production. New Zealand, endemic galaxiid giant kōkopu (Galaxias argenteus) considered suitable aquaculture; however, little known larval-feeding requirements. This study compares growth performance survival larvae over four-week period when fed different proportions first-molt Artemia nauplii (instar-I) enriched, second-molt-onward (instar-II+) durations. The treatment group received greatest Instar-I longest duration had lowest mean wet weight survival, leading total biomass compared other treatments. that only instar-II+ achieved an equally best While partial mixed instar-I same productivity, individual were heavier body length was longer. latter appears offer balance between availability particles optimum size range higher level digestibility given levels highly unsaturated fatty acids polyunsaturated acids.

Migration season of whitebait of giant kokopu, Galaxias argentus

Sampling of whitebait from the migrations in a series of West Coast and Southland rivers (Heaphy, Orowaiti, Buller, Hokitika, Wanganui, Okarito, Mataura) showed that whitebait of the giant kokopu migrate late in the spring, beginning to enter rivers during early November and continuing well through December. Amongst 70 whitebait samples containing nearly 9000 whitebait there were only 231 giant...

Occupational allergy to Artemia fish fry feed in aquaculture.

BACKGROUND Artemia (brine shrimp) is used as feed for fish fry and shrimp in aquaculture. Two employees in a Norwegian aquaculture research farm reported having chest symptoms when working in an Artemia hatch room. AIMS To determine the presence and prevalence of Artemia sensitization at the farm and the extent of any Artemia-related respiratory and hand skin symptoms and to identify the alle...

Effect of shear velocity and flow regimes on scallop post-larval detachment feed on two different diets

Through biological flume experiments, we studied the effect of shear velocity and attachment period on the percent detachment of Pecten maximus post-larvae of different sizes reared on two experimental diets. The first diet, (Pavlova lutheri, Isochrysis galbana, Chaetoceros calcitrans), which served as a reference diet (PTC), is commonly used in bivalve hatcheries; the second is the PTC diet wi...
